Two On One Cap

Sometimes my pupils make me laugh. Quite often actually. Today I was marking tests, and one answer made me smile so much.

The question was:
'The computer doesn't start up. It always gives trouble! What do you say?'

The idea was that the pupils would reply with:
'It never seems to work!' - a phrase they had learned. However, this boy wrote down:
'It never started quickly.'
Patient young man!

The extra assignment also yielded funny results. They had to write about their family and how/where they lived. One boy wrote:

'I live in a two on one cap house.'
He meant: 'I live in a semi-detached house.'
The Dutch word for 'semi-detached' is 'twee onder een kap', meaning 'two under one roof'.
I can see how he got to this creative phrase.
